Harvard Forest Welcomes New Director of Science & Policy Integration Project

Kathy Lambert was appointed as director of the Science & Policy Integration Project in April, 2010. The Science & Policy Integration Project is a new effort at the Harvard Forest that builds bridges between long-term ecological research and related conservation and public policy. The project is focused on large scale drivers of environmental change in the Northeast including land use, climate change, and atmospheric pollution. The effort grew out of a Bullard Fellowship and is based on the recognition that while there is a growing interest in improving the scientific basis for environmental decision making, few innovative programs actually exist within the ecological sciences to meet this demand. Previously, Kathy was the sustainability manager at Dartmouth College, the executive director of the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation and has served as a policy and science translation consultant to organizations including the Cary Institute, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and National Science Foundation's Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program. She is a 1990 graduate of Dartmouth College and holds a master's in forest science from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Kathy is a Switzer Fellow and leadership grant awardee, a Leopold Schepp Scholar, a recipient of the EPA Environmental Merit Award and has published widely in academic and policy journals.
