Applications Open: Summer and Winter Programs for Undergraduates

SUMMER: Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Harvard Forest Summer Research Program, an opportunity for college students across the U.S. to participate in 11 weeks (May 20-August 2, 2013) of paid, independent research with mentors from Harvard and other leading institutions. 2013 projects focus on the ecological and social dimensions of forest ecosystem disturbance, including global climate change, hurricanes, forest harvest, wildlife dynamics, and invasive species.

Projects cover a range of fields, including atmospheric science, paleoecology, statistics, public health, wildlife population dynamics, land-use history, computer science, biogeochemistry, microbial ecology, and conservation. Undergraduate students and recent graduates from all majors are encouraged to apply (deadline: February 1, 2013).

WINTER: Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Harvard Forest Winter Break Week (Jan. 20-25), an immersive, interdisciplinary opportunity for Harvard students (undergraduate and graduate) made possible at no cost to students by funds from the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Daily hands-on activities and field trips led by Harvard faculty and researchers, as well as workshops by local artists and writers, will offer students a variety of perspectives on real-world ecological and conservation topics. Harvard students from all concentrations are encouraged to apply (deadline: Dec. 14).
