Torrey Laboratory Renovations Completed
Harvard Forest is pleased to announce the opening of the newly renovated, ADA-compliant Torrey Laboratory for biogeochemistry and microbial ecology. Funded by a facilities grant from the National Science Foundation, the renovation includes new facilities and equipment to support research into terrestrial and aquatic biogeochemistry, soil microbial processes, and a dedicated microscopy suite. The lab provides new facilities for generating and testing ecological theories linking biological diversity and ecosystem functioning, and will be used extensively by researchers from Harvard University, NSF's Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program, and the new National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). The renovations, completed to very high standards by the Harvard Forest Woods Crew, also include many environmentally-aware enhancements: energy-efficient lighting, systems for grey-water recycling and enhanced water-use efficiency, and industrial waste water collection that encompass the entire Torry lab complex.
