Registration Open for Summer Field School in Archaeology & Paleoecology

On March 1, registration opens for the Harvard Forest Summer Field School in Archaeology and Paleoecology, a 6-week, credit-bearing course offered via the Harvard Summer School to undergraduates and graduate students from any institution.

2012 program dates are June 25 to August 3. The course will be taught by Dianna Doucette, an associate of the Harvard University Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology.

The field school will include intensive training in New England Native American history, post European contact archaeology, archaeological survey techniques, excavation, laboratory methods, artifact analysis, and archaeological interpretation, and will be informed by paleoecological and environmental history studies conducted by Harvard researchers. Students will learn how archaeology can help answer questions concerning ancient and historic period land use and forest ecology.

The course cost is $7,350 and includes undergraduate or graduate tuition, housing at the Harvard Forest, and a full meal plan. Field School students will also attend evening research seminars, enjoy weekend excursions, and present their final research in a Symposium with students from the Harvard Forest Summer Research Program.
