David R. Foster and Wildlands and Woodlands receive the Charles Eliot Award from the Trustees of Reservations

The Trustees of Reservations, one of the nation's oldest land conservation organizations awarded the award to David Foster at their annual meeting on September 25. The award, named for the landscape architect and founder of the Trustees, was presented by Vice President Wes Ward for "David's 25 years of visionary commitment to conservation and his inspiration to the conservation community, especially his leadership of a remarkable team of university experts in highlighting the need for a coordinated, bottom-up campaign for the conservation of forests in the Massachusetts and New England landscape. Wildlands and Woodlands: A Vision for the Forests of Massachusetts and its sequel Wildlands and Woodlands: A Vision for the New England Landscape... have raised consciousness among policy-makers and the public at large, stimulated strong grassroots activism... and contributed to important, ecologically-informed changes in forest policy in Massachusetts."
