Harvard Forest Inclement Weather Policy

Printer-friendly version

Harvard Forest, which is 70 miles west of Cambridge, experiences impacts from the weather that is different than Cambridge. Thus, Cambridge might get a blizzard and Petersham has only 2 inches of snow. To address this, we only close for weather when the Governor declares a state of emergency which covers Worcester County or north Worcester county. This will be announced in a variety of media but definitely is posted at http://www.mass.gov/alert/alertlanding.html. There is a smartphone app on that page that will provide updates related to this. When appropriate, the administrator will send out an email to the Harvard Forest listserve as well.

This being said, every person is responsible for their own safety. Thus if for whatever reason you do not feel it safe or are unable to make it to work that day, you need to take vacation or personal time and stay home. This is consistent with FAS policy.
