Carnivorous plants
The Harvard Forest is home to two families of native carnivorous plants: the northern pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea) and the sundew (2 species), which grow at Harvard Pond. Several additional carnivorous plant species are reared in the Torrey greenhouse.
Our research on carnivorous plants is primarily led by HF Senior Ecologist Aaron Ellison, with assistance from students in the Summer Research Program.
