Asian Longhorned Beetle

Although the invasive Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) has not been found on Harvard Forest land, Harvard Forest's research on ALB dispersal and forest impacts are conducted by ecologist David Orwig and USDA researchers in Worcester, Mass., and surrounding towns. Due to its preference for over a dozen hardwood species, especially iconic maple species, the ALB is considered a major threat to New England's forests. It is one of several invasive insects that are a focus of related work with Jonathan Thompson's lab, such as research examining landowner responses to invasive forest insects.
